Upon Browsing around the Internet looking for anything “New Orleans” to read, I came across this article written by a writer from the New York Times. The article is the author’s first-hand experience of spending a week here in New Orleans, and studying nothing but places and things to eat. The article is a tad bit lengthy, but it’s alway nice to see an out-of-towner have positive things to say about our city and its culture. Perhaps I’m a tad biased, but I’m convinced that NOLA has the best food anywhere!

New Orleans Real Estate – Lower Interest Rates?
This short article below was forwarded to me by Bobbi Schee with Gulfcoast Bank in Mandeville, LA. I thought this was a useful snippet of information regarding mortgage interest rates. Mortgage bond prices rose this week pushing mortgage interest rates lower. Rates initially spiked higher following higher than expected producer price index figures. Fortunately the consumer price index showed tame inflation on the consumer level and mortgage bonds were able to recover.
The Fed kept rates unchanged, indicated they would try to keep rates low for some time, but also warned that long term security purchases would cease at the end of the first quarter of 2010, which could cause rates to increase. The Fed’s challenge will be stepping out of the mortgage market without causing mortgage interest rates to spike uncontrollably higher. The housing sector is a vital component of the economy. The last thing the Fed needs is for mortgage interest rates to escalate causing the housing sector to suffer. While the most recent data shows positive housing trends across most of the nation, analysts attribute the positive movements to artificially low mortgage interest rates tied to the Fed buying of mortgage bonds. How this will all play out is still very uncertain.
Now is a great time to take advantage of rates at these historically favorable levels.
For the coming week, the most important release will be Wednesday, the inflation index. Recent reports were mixed – The PCE price index will be carefully watched for any signs of inflationary pressures.
The bond market will close early Thursday in advance of the Christmas holiday Friday. The shortened trading week may result in some market volatility coupled with thin trading conditions likely.

Holiday Decorating – Safety Tips
So, it’s that time of year again! Now, I know what you’re thinking, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet right? Well to my amazement Christmas seems to get kicked off earlier and earlier every year. Department stores are already decorated and ready to go, and need I mention that the radio stations are already playing Christmas music as if Christmas is next week!! I wonder if they know they are about a week too early?
Either way, I just thought I’d share this article from Realtor.com on Safety Tips for Holiday Decorating. I know many people do get started on their home decorating the day/weekend after Thanksgiving. It’s important to be safe, but I can’t help but picture the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie where Chevy Chase makes every wrong move in the book decorating the house, and laugh to myself.
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, so be smart, and be safe so you can make it to next Christmas in one piece!! Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
